COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to help students develop the essential communication skills they need for success beyond high school—skills that will benefit them in college, careers, civic life, and personal relationships. Public speaking is not just about speeches; it's about learning how to express ideas effectively, listen respectfully, and present yourself with confidence and professionalism.

 How to speak clearly, confidently, and persuasively
 Using formal tone and respectful language
 Non-verbal communication: posture, eye contact, and gestures
 Professional dress and etiquette
Interviewing for Success
 How to prepare for job and college interviews
 Common questions and best responses
 How to ask insightful questions
 Practice through mock interviews with peer and teacher feedback
Presentational Speaking
 Informative, persuasive, and narrative speech writing
 Delivering short and long presentations with visual aids
 Practicing voice projection, pacing, and articulation
 Regular speech days to build comfort and confidence
Debates and Socratic Seminars
 Researching and constructing clear arguments
 Respectfully addressing opposing views
 Understanding logical fallacies and effective rebuttal
 Participating in structured debates and seminars on current topics
Civic Communication: Jury Deliberations
 Understanding how to speak and listen as part of a team
 Making reasoned decisions based on evidence
 Participating in mock jury deliberations to simulate real-world civic duties

Why This Matters
